Frequently Asked Questions

Am I Eligible?

All customers may sign up for the Easy Pay Plan.  Your ability balance must be paid in full before the Easy Plan can be activated.

Will I still receive a bill?

If you select the Easy Pay option you will still receive a monthly bill listing the amount due for all the services available.  You will not have to write a check, buy a money order, or travel to our office to make your payment.  On your bill you will see “Bank Draft” listed.  The amount of your utility bill will be deducted from your bank account by Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) on the 20th of every month.  If the 20th falls on a holiday or the weekend, it will be deducted the following work day.

What about Insufficient Funds?

If your bank refuses to honor your (EFT) payment for any reason, the City will notify you of the refusal.  You will automatically be charged a $25.00 service charge and your account must be brought current immediately in cash to avoid interruption in service.  You will automatically be removed from the (EFT) Easy Pay Plan.

What if I Change My Mind or Change Banks?

You must notify the City of Lake Alfred customer service in writing if you wish to drop the Easy Pay Plan.  If you change banks or accounts you will need to reapply and in writing stop the existing account transaction from which your (EFT) payment is made.

How Do I sign up?

An application must be completed along with a voided check.  To receive an application you can either stop by our office at 155 East Pomelo Street or mail a self addressed envelope to the City of Lake Alfred, 120 E. Pomelo Street, Lake Alfred, FL  33850.

Processing Your Account

Processing of your application may take 30 to 60 days, so continue to pay your bill as usual until you see “Bank Draft” printed on your bill.

Watering Restrictions

The City of Lake Alfred requires citizens to comply with the water restrictions set forth by the Southwest Florida Water Management District in order to conserve water consumption. The water conservation measures went into effect on January 16 and remain in place until July 31st.  The guidelines are as follows:

Lawn and Landscape Watering

  • Our county and city has a once-per-week schedule in to effect. If you were previously allowed to follow a twice-per-week schedule, you now need to follow the schedule shown below.

  • Properties under two acres in size may only water before 8 a.m. or after 6 p.m.

  • Properties two acres or larger may only water before 10 a.m. or after 4 p.m.

  • Variances are available if a property proposes an alternative irrigation plan (such as splitting a large property into two pieces and assigning a different day to each piece).

  • Hand-watering or micro-irrigation on non-lawn landscape is allowed.

  • Certain exemptions are available, such as allowances for new plant material.

Addresses (house numbers) ending in the following numbers may only irrigate on:

Ending in 0 or 1 Monday                                  Ending in 2 or 3 Tuesday

Ending in 4 or 5 Wednesday                             Ending in 6 or 7 Thursday

Ending in 8 or 9 Friday

Golf Courses, Agricultural Operations and Other Water Users

  • Fountains and other aesthetic-only water features may only operate 8 hours per day.

  • Car washing is limited to once per week; fundraiser events are still allowed.

  • Comply with all Water Use Permit conditions including allowable drought quantities.

  • Reduce off-site discharge and mobile equipment washing.

  • Follow applicable best management practices, including watering times and applications.

The City of Lake Alfred thanks you for following the above guidelines.  If you have any questions please contact the Utilities Department at 863/291-5274 or visit the Southwest Florida Water Management website at www.watermatters.org
