Lake Alfred Library

Dr. Edwin Moore was a research scientist at Florida University located on Experiment Station Road in Lake Alfred. He is credited with being the co-inventor of frozen orange juice concentrate and received a patent for the invention in 1948. Dr. Moore was a very quiet man and lived with his wife Eunice right here in Lake Alfred in a very unassuming house. Many people knew him and saw him walking around the city. Little did anyone know how wealthy he was.

In his will, he left an endowment to the Friends of the Library with the stipulation that the money be used to build a library. He also left a significant amount to Habitat for Humanity, the Salvation Army and his church. The Friends of the Library worked long and hard to make sure his wish was fulfilled. In his honor the the new was library named after him.

Our Library Is Born
