Do I need a permit?

Any owner or owner's authorized agent who intends to construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move, demolish or change the occupancy of a building or structure, or to erect, install, enlarge, alter, repair, remove, convert or replace any impact-resistant coverings, electrical, gas, mechanical or plumbing system, the installation of which is regulated by the Florida Building Code, or to cause any such work to be performed, shall first make application and obtain the required permit. Per Florida Statutes 125.022 and 166.033, the issuance of this Building Permit does not exempt the applicant from obtaining all permits or approvals required by State or Federal agencies.

What is required for a permit?

Permits must be applied for by a state-licensed contractor that is registered in the City’s Accela system. Owners of homesteaded property may apply for permits when acting as their own contractor and provide direct supervision of themselves of all work not performed by licensed contractors and must provide an owners disclosure statement. If you are a homeowner wishing to permit a job on your home, please download, complete and attach the Owner Builder Affidavit (PDF) to your application.

An Owner Application Authorization (PDF) is required for all permits applied for by contractors.

A Notice of Commencement (PDF) is mandated by Chapter 713 .13 of the Florida Statutes for any job value over $5000 or $15,000 for AC work. Record a notice of commencement in the Polk county Clerk of Courts office and post either a certified copy or a notarized statement that the notice of commencement has been filed for recording along with a copy at the job site and with the permit application.

To request a Government Power Release, please email the provider work order number, physical address, and permit number to permits@mylakealfred.com.

For Certificates of Completion or Certificates of Occupancy, a request must be sent via email to permits@mylakealfred.com

Private Providers must email the Inspection Results and Certificate of Compliance to permits@mylakealfred.com

If the permit has been issued but a revision is needed, you must email a revision letter to permits@mylakealfred.com to inform us that new documents have been uploaded.
